Tartan Trot 10K/5K: 600+ Runners Weather the Elements and Support St. Luke's Missions!
Saturday, January 30th was an unusually cold and wet day tucked in between two weeks of beautiful, sunny, 50 degree Atlanta days. No wonder, St. Luke's was hosting the Tartan Trot and God wanted to set the mood my providing a Scottish atmosphere.
Preparations for this event began last summer and came to an end when representatives from the entire St. Luke's family came together along with over 650 runners, ages 2 to 92. Our parking lots, hallways, Great Hall foyer and streets were filled with people excited and joyous to be participating in this great event. No matter the age or the ability, everyone had a chance to contribute. Phil brown said it best, 'It is great to look around and see the entire St. Luke's family represented. That is what church is all about - all of us working together for a common goal.'
Fast Facts:
- 660 registered runners (500 were not church members)
- 46 registered on that cold, wet morning
- 70 runners have qualifying times to be seeded in the Peachtree Road Race
- 100+ people volunteered their time
- 73 home baked pies and cakes were donated as awards
- 785 T-shirts printed
- 51 volunteers manned the course
- 13 police officers secured the course
- 500 cones were placed in the streets
- $41,000+ Gross proceeds!
Don't forget to congratulate the top St. Luke's finishers in their age group:
Carol Perry, Douglas Lincoln, Sara Cronan, Callie Dill, Margaret Ann Kennedy, Clarice Reid, Don Dill, Tom McIntosh, Tom McKinney, Rob Price

This wonderful event has been building over the years, but because of the generous financial contributions from our numerous sponsors - MINI Cooper, John Martin, Bella Customs Kitchens, June Price Interiors, to name a few- and the vision, guidance and energy provided by Marty Whitcomb, we look forward to bigger things (and crowds) to come. Thanks so much to everyone involved.
