Helping a Loved One Cope with Alzheimer's
A seminar presented by Presbyterian Village
Tuesday, February 9; 7 - 9 pm at St. Luke's Presbyterian Church
IAlzheimer's and related dementia afflict one in eight persons over the age of 65 (source: Alzheimer's Association). While the need to assist a person progressing through the stages of Alzheimer's is clear, the means to accomplish this is often unclear for families and friends. Families regularly attempt to meet the needs of a loved one, without the information and preparation needed to help this process go smoothly. For many families, simply discussing the topic with a loved one is difficult.
Presbyterian Village, a continuing care retirement community located in Austell, will present a seminar offering practical tips and support for families of persons with Alzheimer's. "Helping A Loved One with Alzheimer's is free of charge to the community. This seminar is designed to equip families with practical tools needed to respond successfully to the changing needs of a loved one with Alzheimer's. Topics will include:
- How to have "the conversation" with your loved one about Alzheimer's
- How to provide care and make the home environment safer
- How to protect personal choice through advance directives
- How to guard the spirit of the person with Alzheimer's and the caregiver
Presbyterian Village, in Austell, Georgia, is one of five communities operated by Presbyterian Homes of Georgia.
