Bible Study

The educational ministry of St. Luke's encourages a thinking, nurturing climate for lifelong, challenging biblical inquiry into the Presbyterian/Reformed perspective of the Christian life. This perspective encourages:

» The desire to hear and respond to God's call
» Trusting in the grace of God while asking important questions
» Ordering and reshaping our lives as children of God, and
» Exhibiting God's reign by embodying the Good News

Adult Continuing Academy Studies

This track represents the offerings that are not on Sunday morning but are part of the continuing Bible study opportunities at St. Luke's. Further details on each of the courses offered are available in the St. Luke's adult education course catalog, "Academy of Faith and Life."

Disciples Bible Study
The Disciple Bible Study program is a life changing journey through the scriptures. The original courses are 34 week studies of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Small groups and a leader meet for two hours each week. Participants commit to daily preparation and weekly attendance at and participation in the group study sessions. Beginners need to start with Disciple I and any course may be selected thereafter.

For Spring 2012, we are also offering 2 Disciple short courses.  "Invitation to the Old Testament" will look at the witness of the Old Testament  to hear God's call and purpose for God's people.  This group will be facilitated by Paula Barbin on Thursday evenings, 7:00pm, January 19 - March 15.  "The Old Testament Upwrapped" will look at prominent passages from the Old Testament , exploring the Biblical story and its characters, along with the cultural and social situation they address, the methods by which they have been interpreted, and how we might understand them today.  This group will be facilitated by Janie Hoag and Shannon Dill on Thursday mornings, 9:30 - 11:00am, January 26 - March 29

Contact Liz Catlett (lizcatlett@slpres.org) at the church office for more information.  Click here to download the Disciple Brochure.

Wednesday Night Bible Study
Wednesday nights for adults include dinner, served family style, from 5:45-6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall, followed by Bible Study (roughly from 6:30-7:30 p.m.). The adult Bible studies and discussion group topics vary each season of FEAST, but there's always something to interest adults of all ages.

Men's Bible Study
The Men's Bible Study is a group of working and retired men who meet every Friday morning at 6:45 a.m. for fellowship and study. The Serendipity Bible for Groups is our reference although any Bible is an acceptable reference for our study. The group discussion ends promptly at 8:00 a.m. so those members who work are still able to arrive at work on time. Also, men who travel or are not able to attend every week are encouraged to join the group.

Presbyterian Women
Presbyterian Women meet monthly for Bible study, fellowship, and a general meeting. Each Circle offers an opportunity - no matter who you are or where you are in life - to join in fellowship with other women, to know God and to learn ways to love your neighbor. Click here for more PW information.
